5 Signs That You Need to Start to Hydrate Your Face

Making sure your face is properly hydrated is paramount if you want to have a healthy, youthful complexion. Thankfully, it is easy to whether or not you're getting enough proper face hydration. Here are five ways to tell if you need to start moisturizing your face. 

1. Your Face Feels Tight

You know that feeling when the skin on your face feels really tight, stiff, and cracked? That is one of the biggest signs you aren't getting enough face hydration. 

When anything loses moisture they begin to stretch and crack. Think about your favorite pair of leather boots. If you forget to polish them, the leather starts to crack and look old.

One of the best ways to fight that is to use a good day cream first thing in the morning on clean, damp skin. By applying it when your skin is still slightly wet, you are locking in all that moisture, helping your skin to feel more relaxed.  

2. You Keep Breaking Out

Yep, that's right. Having dry skin can make your acne worse.

Your top layer of skin is what protects it from all sorts irritants and pollutants. When it's overly dry, it loses its ability to do that. Plus, dry skin tends to cause dead skin cells to build up and clog pores, leading to acne flare-ups.

3. Your Skin Looks Dull

Much like why dry skin can cause acne, it can also cause your skin to look dull and lifeless. When you have dead skin built up on your face it doesn't reflect light in the same way it would if those layers are swept away. By washing your face with a gentle cleanser followed by a moisturizer, you are letting your skin shine.

A quick word of warning, though. While it may seem like a good idea to exfoliate your skin more than once or twice a week, don't. It can remove the protective layers your skin needs to heal and repair itself and lead to dryer and duller skin.

4. Your Skin Starts to Look Red

If you leave dry skin too long it can lead to inflammation and even eczema. This will make your skin look red and splotchy while making your skin even dryer. Talk about a vicious circle.

One of the best ways to combat this is to use a face mask for dry skin. The sheets are usually made of natural materials, soaked in a skin care serum that you leave on the face for 10-15 minutes. The precious elements can’t evaporate and hence penetrate deep into your skin. The skin will immediately look better, firmer, brighter.

This can help jumpstart your daily routine and help your moisturizer do its job more efficiently. 

 5. The Great Outdoors Makes Your Skin Angry

The elements can be harsh on the skin, especially if it's already parched. By making sure you have an extra layer of hydration between the sun and wind and your face, you are creating a protective barrier.

Just don't forget a face cream with SPF if you are prone to sunburns. Nothing dries the skin out in the short term quite as fast as a sunburn.

The Importance of Face Hydration

Making sure you are properly moisturized is necessary for healthy and happy skin. Knowing that your face is much more exposed and used than your body, it needs an extra care. One top of that, hydration slows ageing signs, your skin is already aging by your 20s. Do not wait until you're over 40 years old to use skin care products, start right now to help delay dehydration, collagen loss, and other signs of aging.⁠ You don't have to spend a lot to see results, either.
